I dont know how long this problem has existed but I noticed the sensor coil on my stator was burnt pretty bad the engine would still run fine but tach was also out .So i decided to replace the stator thinking it would fix the tach and the no charge problem I was having but after replacing the stator the engine will barely start at all could the be an issue with the power pack after lookin at the burnt sensor coil it looks the the orange & orange black wires had become fused together is this asign of a short somewhere if so where

What is the model number?? Im sure the rectifier is also toast, and should be tested. Do you have a manual? Have you tested the spark on all cylinders?

the engine 1995 200hp the stator is 173 4643 power pack 173-6212 CDI the the regulator looks fine but you know looks ain't nothing. I'm going to do a resistance test tomorrow. the pack also looks fine doesn't look burnt at all Although I have replace the regulator when it got hot and toasted the pack from lack of cooling reaching the top of the block before. Since I replace the blow off valve to allow water to reach it better heat has'nt been an issue I have to run the engine to test regulator rectifier or does the resistance test do as well.
And yes I have an official OMC service and parts manual
