Ok, yall may have seen me here before with a 1993 NS40C, well now I've got a different piece of $%@! with a different problem. Long story but I'll do the best I can:
I bought the motor used and took it out several times without issue, one trip even included more than 15 miles of high speed travel and it ran like a dream. One evening, kinda chilly, took it out to the white river. Started up normally but I noticed a profuse amount of white smoke. Iknew it wasn't oil smoke so I figured it was water vapor and shrugged it off. I went on downriver for a while and eventually got to beaver lake where I opened it up. It didn't seem to be running at top speed so I was a bit worried. It ran worse and worse until it got to where it would fluctuate rpms wildly, at wot i guess it would flux 4200-5000 at random, I slowed it down to idle and the white smoke poured out so I cut it off. Upon inspection I saw that the top spark plug had shaken itself completely out of its cylinder. It was still in but extremely loose. I trolled back to the boat ramp. About a week later (busy work/school week) I took it out again, this time with 2 shiny new LGKs from O'reilly. It started right up and I ran it around for 15 minutes (idle, WOT, every speed possible) and it was flawless. I cut it off in the shallow water to checkout a hunting spot with my trolling motor. When I got ready to fire it up again, it would not go. I could only get it to run in the 1/2 choke position in the range of half throttle... and it ran ROUGH. If choke is off, it doesn't run at all. If I throttle it below 1/2, it loses power and makes an ugly heaving noise and sputters to a halt. I took it out a week after this and it did the same thing 1/2 choke,1/2 throttle, and neutral gear. The reason I think it was carb issues is because I had an old 79 Evinrude 35 that made the exact same noise and ran the exact same rough way at 1/2 throttle, and that was because it had an air filter that was stuck in the full "rich" position, and that was an easy fix. My buddy and I took off the carb and did a little cleaning around the hoses and the float and inside the throat (not in the jets). It wasn't all that dirty. The paper gasket that is between the back of the carb and the motor head is a bit crusty, so I'll go ahead and replace that, but do yall have any ideas of other potential problems? Imma try to post some vids of the issue, if they dont work on here I'll put a youtube link or something...
Thanks
Higgins

I hope the links work, Facebook is the only place my phone was able to send them, so do me a favor and don't creep on me too much haha. The video of me driving it is driving at full throttle, which doesn't go too smoothly...
Thanks again
