I will start off by saying this is my first boat, and I do not have much background in engines either....I recently purchased a 95 Regal Rush xp with a Mercury Sport Jet 120, I am renting a place on a lake and wanted to have some fun this summer. Mistake 1 that I own up to is not putting it in the water before buying it...that aside, the first time we brought it out it started up just fine, but when I started to accelerate just as it was about to plane the engine makes a horrible sound and it will not accelerate anymore. We first tried new spark plugs and running seafoam through it since it hadn't been run since the summer before. After this didn't work we came to the conclusion the carbs needed cleaning. Brought it in, both carbs were cleaned and rebuilt and a new fuel line put in. Started up great, got it going and once again could not get it to plane, though it was running much smoother. Brought it back to the shop, they checked the flywheel and magnets, and it already had a new stator and switch box. Top cylinder was not firing, they put in another new spark plug and got all 4 firing. I took the boat back, couldn't even get it to start. Brought it back to the shop AGAIN, and still no answers.So long story short it has a new starter, new spark plugs, new battery, new stator and switch box, new fuel line, and both carbs have been cleaned and rebuilt....what else could this be?!
