I have a 95' Reinell 2200RXL which has a 5.7L V8 (#'s out of paperwork! 4-57B100HS and product ID# OF417053) (can anyone tell me how many HP this is also?)
OK, so last year i noticed what appeared to be rusty (iron looking buildup) water on the port side of the engine (mainly on back of ALT and hoses near water pump) briefly looked into it and couldn't see any water leaking while running.
De-winterizing last week (mind you i live in northern California) and noticed a tone change in the engine. investigated and couldn't find it. even had a mechanic at work peak at it. was a small rumbling/ grinding coming from what sounded like the front of the engine (figured it may be the water pump on it's last leg).
Was an idiot and decided to go out anyhow. ran fine until i came down for a boat, and now that i think about it she started to diesel as soon as the wake hit us and the shut off (flapper valve, maybe). i tried to crank over and she would only move slightly. checked oil, not making any.
Got home and pulled plugs. water in ALL four cylinders on port side (more so on 3 and 5) pulled head to find a small half circle ring, w/ a contoured end on one side sitting on top of #5 piston. everything else looks fine, no major scarring on cylinder lining or nothing else different besides #5 head looks different (not sure why, just didn't look oily like the rest of the underside of head (can get pics later today).
Flapper valve was hard to move with my hand (possibly got stuck).
What should i do now. Need help identifying ring please
