1995 Mercruiser 5.7 EFI Just Shut Down

Cruising along at 2800 rpm about 22kn when the engine just quit. For a while it would not restart. A few minutes and it started but if I went over 2000 rpm it would quit again. Got us home but I need a clue as what could cause this. Just added fuel from marina that morning. Went 6 miles out in the morning. Hung out at anchor for a few hours fishing and on the return trip after about 3 miles the trouble started. Your ideas on what I need to look for are appreciated.

Electrical issue

Check the kill switch, might have a bad connection

When the key is turned to ON do you hear the fuel pump come on, even more so when it won't start?

If boat has a voltmeter on it, does the voltage stay above 13V?
If it doesn't have a voltmeter, get one to connect on the coil + side

Just added fuel from marina that morning.

Ayuh,..... I pretty much always start with examinin' the Contents of the fuel filter, 'n replace it,.......

Afterr that, checkin' for voltage at the coil's (+) terminal,......

When it quits, it's loosin' either fuel, or fire,.... ya gotta figure out which,.....

Bein' an Efi, ya need a 'puter to dig much deeper than the basics,.....

No kill switch on board as far as I can tell. I will change the fuel filter and see what happens. This weekend will be the test.
