Does anyone know what the candlestick looking piece is that has a spring around it. It sits at the top of the carb and when put back together presses against the power jet. It doesnt show it in any of the diagrams and can the spring be replaced. It looks like the candlestick looking part is pressed in and cant be removed or replaced. Also does any know if there is another fuel filter that can be used in the fuel pump. The filter now is a ceramic-pumice looking piece that seems to have broken down and went into my carb...hence the carb rebuild. Is there a cartridge filter that can replace the ceramic one? Thanks for any help.

That is the power piston, operated by manifold vacuum, and yes it is pressed into the carb, and the spring is not replaceable. Leave the filter out of the pump, and install a water seperator filter between fuel tank and pump.

Thanks for the fast response. I guess I can find one of those filters at NAPA I suppose. I thought that most of the junk I found in the carb was from that filter. Thanks again you have been a big help.

I doubt you'll find a water-separator filter at NAPA. You can easily find one here at iboats. Here's one:

http://www.iboats.com/Fuel-Water-Separator-Kit/dm/*******.428987517--**********.056767928--view_id.172310

In addition to the kit, you'll need two brass fittings to fit into the separator kit mount that are matched to your fuel line size, new fuel line hose from the tank to the filter, then filter to tank. A couple of new hose clamps. And a place to mount the filter. It should preferably be mounted high enough that the bottom of the filter canister is above the top of the fuel tank- to prevent siphoning of fuel out of the tank if the canister ever sprung a leak.

If mounting the filter looks difficult, post some pictures of the front of your engine and the engine mounts, and let us help you.
