motor will only turn 2000 rpm at wide open throttle , starts and idles fine

The only thing that can be determined by your post is that you have a motor that don't work.<br />You need to supply as much info as possible.<br />Did it ever run correctly?<br />What size, hull style and weight of boat?<br />Prop size?

You are probably NOT running on 6 cylinders. I bet it sounds okay at an idle. Start looking for cylinders not firing.<br /><br />Bob
