I have a 95 Maxum 2100 with a blown 5.0, Alpha 2 outdrive. I want to upgrade to a 5.7 but I don't know what my options are. Can I use a truck motor? If so what year and model truck should I get it from? I assume the external parts from my existing 5.0 should bolt right up. Current engine has 2bbl carb, would it be worth upgrading to fuel injection? I just want a nice reliable boat to take out the family. Freshwater use only. Any advice would be great.

A truck motor would be the easiest. Skip the fuel injection. It will cost you more than the engine replacement. If you want an upgrade get a new intake and 4bbl carb. When looking for an engine look for a Vortec that will give you more power also.

Agreed - skip the fuel injection.

Agreed, the 1996 and newer motors with the vortec heads are a significant enough improvement to go that route. however if you find a 1988-1995 engine in great shape for a good deal, you can always simply bolt on the vortec heads and intake.

yes, the external components of your 5.0 will bolt right up to a 5.7
