Still having issues with this thing surging after quarter throttle.

Replaced cracked coil, new plugs, removed oil injection and mix my own gas. Lines are tight and filter is free. Runs/starts fine until I throttle up.

I read in older posts that the fuel pump needs to be replaced with sierra part 18-7352 (just fuel pump not oil mixer), but that pump covers till 1989. Is this the pump to get? Cant find any other suitable one in the descriptions.

Thanks for any help

Looks like my motor is a 1989 after all.... J40TLCEC.

So the Sierra pump 18-7352 is for 48 horse motors, which I have read is the one to get.(looks like all the 40 horse outboards from 89 were VRO?) Guess I'll get it and hope for the best.......

Install the pump from a 2 cylinder 48 hp model like yours.---That pump mounts directly to the block with a gasket and 2 screws.

Thanks R1, was wondering if my posts were invisible. Heh

BTW, the VRO pump probably worked fine, I just like to mix and know what I have.

Got the pump with no gasket...... even though the picture shows one with the pump.

Just freakin great, will have to try and fabricate one I guess.

Still didn't run right after changing the pump.

Brought it to the boat shop and got it worked on. Was told it had a bad stator which took out my new coil, and the sync was off.

Now it runs like a top. ($340 later)
