OK fellas. I have a bad alarm as in its damaged and does not make sound. This year I took it to the river and it fired up fine, good stem of water or off the tell tale, and it jumped right up on plane. For it to 45 mph and it went into SLOW. I bring it home, hook it up to the hose and take its temp, and removed the oil tank (never trusted it anyway) and did a compression test along with cleaning and regapping the plugs. I take it back to the rivet and same thing. I unhooked the temp switch and still in slow. Frustrated I take it to the shop. They say is going into slow because of the alarm being bad. Does that sound right? I've read the book front to back and unless I missed a page it doesn't say anything about that happening. Thanks doer your help and insight. I may sound like I know a thing or 2 bit really I don't know squat.

No it will not go into SLOW due to the alarm sounding, or if the alarm horn is bad.

You never say what the temp was??? Why?
Was it hot or not?

If not hot, you could have a bad temp sensor in the head. simply disconnect the tan lead and re-check for SLOW, or, if you want, check with an ohmmeter to see if the sensor is permanently switched to ground. It should be OPEN to ground until the temp reaches around 205 F or thereabouts.
The engine should run at 145 or thereabouts.
If the engine is at room temp, and the switch shows shorted to ground, there is your problem.

If it is still in SLOW when the temp switch is disconnected, you may have a bad pack.

Hey Boobie....I forget....will a NO OIL signal from the OMS pump kick it into SLOW?
I don't think that it will......

It was around 150 if I remember. It wasn't hot that I remember. I did disconnect the temp switch and it didn't come out of slow. A no oil or low oil will engage slow. I'm thinking bad power pack. That is what I was thinking all along. Thanks!

Well if you are sure about the no oil engaging SLOW, then I would absolutely double check the wiring at the fuel pump where you disconnected it when removing the tank.

Also, I know for a fact LOW OIL will NOT cause SLOW. It doesn't even make sense...why go to SLOW when the oil is low in the tank? I have had the low oil alarm on many Evinrudes, and never SLOW initiated.
So it is your pack, or wiring from the NO OIL warning circuit. (IF...if...)
I absolutely do not remember any path from the NO OIL circuit that goes back to the pack. It has to go to the pack to initiate SLOW. Maybe it ties into the tan overheat line, I doubt it.

Going for the book right now...

Ok. I just had a completely different mechanic from a different company tell me that the alarm could be sending a signal back to the power pack and putting it into slow. Hmm. I can't read wiring diagrams good enough to tell if that can happen.

Well, thanks anyway. I'll get it sorted out sooner or later and revisit this post with the results
