First 2 times out this year and I think I might have a bad coil ?? - had a trouble-free '06 season on this OB that had the PH rebuilt in '05, stator/switch box/rectifier replaced in '04. During the winter I run the motor for 15 min each month on conditioned fuel. Never had any related problems after the E-10 switchover last year.
The first trip last month had brief split-second power drops at mid range speeds (2500-4200 RPM), and thinking fuel, switched to a 3 gal. portable tank from the boat's 30 gal.. Problem diminished somewhat. Back home changed last season's tank and OB filters, plugs.
Next trip same problems but 15 minutes into the ride, not 5 minutes like last time, and at lower speeds. Definately felt and sounded like a cyclinder drop hiccup, not fuel interrupt. Continued to happen even @ 1200-3000 RPM, but again no problem in gear at idle or steady low speeds.
Since the coils are the only original parts left in the ignition system and their ground wires/connections all test OK, I thought that I'd take a chance and replace all 3 rather than find the worst looking plug and start with that coil.
Any other opinions or thoughts. Thanks in advance.....
