I recently had this motor at a dealer at the end of April,#2 cylinder no spark, replaced power pack and plugs (I think that is what you call it) and everything else checked out o.k.. Have not had the boat out until this past weekend since being in the shop. Motor started right up and ran good all day until I parked it at the dock. Went to get vehicle and trailer, backed in water, tried to start engine, ran for bit then died, tried again and it died, started long enough to get boat to trailer, then died. Engine would turn over good but not start. What could be the problem?

If this only happens with a warm motor, after you turn it off for a while, I would think a flooded condition caused by a fuel pump leaking gas into the block.

Get a fuel pump rebuild kit from a Mercury dealer, under $20.
Replace the old parts with new, take for a test drive.

Let us know if it works.

Re: 1995 Force 70 H.P.

I had a similar problem a few years ago. The engine would start perfectly at the launch in the early AM, run great from the launch to the cove. "No wake" great to the fishing spot. Shut it off. Fished all morning. At noon, the engine started perfectly...BUT... during the "no wake" back to the main part of the lake and usually within 5 minutes it would stall and would not restart. Had to have it towed to the dock. After spending over $700 in tuneup, waterpump and other items, it stalled again and required towing again. Out of desperation, I had them change the fuel line from the tank to the primer bulb and the line from the bulb to the fuel pump. I hasn't stalled since. It seems that there might have been a small hole somewhere between the bulb and the fuel pump which permitted the fuel to drain back into the tank. There was sufficient fuel in the line from the pump to the carb to let it start and run slowly until it ran out of fuel.

Thanks harkawy, Now that I think about it, the primer bulb would go soft fairly quickly. I will try what you suggest and if that doesn't work I will rebuild fuel pump.
