I have a 1995 Force 50 by Mercury Marine on the back of my 1989 Suncruiser 20' pontoon. When I start the engine it runs nice but under the engine cover in the back of the motor water is coming in and building up. I know it is coming in when running because I dried it all up nice 2 times and when I start the motor I see water start building up. I can see from when but I think it is from the bottom of the motor somewhere. I hoping it might be a problem someone else has had and they could share their fix.
Thanks

I have not taken the boat in the water yet until this is fixed. The water is coming into the engine compartment when I run the engine with the water ears on.

I will check for that. I bought the service manual online last night and I'm waiting for the book. Are you familiar with this engine? Where would that be located? Thanks

Check your head gasket, especially the lower part of the head. Start the engine with muffs on, look at all the mating surfaces of the head to the block. If you find water coming out replace the head gasket, it is relatively cheap and easy to do with basic hand tools and a torque wrench.

Hopefully my service manual will be here soon and I will dive into it. The main gasket would make sense. I just bought the boat and the marina I bought it from said they went through the motor and it was perfect after they cleaned up the carbs. What didn't make sense was the motor was freshly painted black, why do that if just the carbs were dirty. I'm not sure but I think I was not told the whole story. They kept telling me that the boat was sold as is and no returns.

Sounds like the work of another greasy salesman, but no worries ecaddy that 50 is a good motor and easy to work on :) Let us know what you find.
