Evinrude 60hp 1995 3 cylinder
Model BE60TLEOC
Serial no G 03751787

I have a bit of a dilema with getting spark plugs for this engine.

i cannot localy get the recommended champion spark plugs, i can only get NGK.:(

i went to local marine shop armed with the champion spark plug numbers, but like i say they only sell NGK
So they got out their reference book ,looked up the engine and it came back with NGK BPR7HS.
I also saw in their book, that it said these are correct for my engine.

From what ive read the correct plugs would be CHAMPION QL77JC4

Now when ive got home and looked this up it seems these are totaly wrong for my engine !

from what ive read i DO NOT want the R rated plugs,
when ive cross referenced the ngk to champion on the internet, they do not come even close to what the
champion plugs would be ???????

Has anyone else had this problem ?

Does anyone here know what plugs can be used if using NGK.

in the uk we are on a bank holiday ,and most marine shops are closed till wednesday.
thats not good for me as i want to be on the water tommorow and ive broke 2 plugs .
the shop i got these from might be open till later today to get these changed, once i know what plugs i realy need.

Re: 1995 evinrude 60hp spark plugs..

Just went to the above link and it shows champion QL77JC4 to NGK BZ7HS-10 ..

But this site also has a champion spark plug guide that tells me i need a different plug again

this time its champion QL78YC
when i cross refernce this on the NGK spark plug site it says the equivelent NGK Plug is BPR7HS !!!!!!!
http://www.sparkplugs.co.uk/pages/pricing/ccp/ngk-x-ref-ccp.asp

now ive read elsewhere that i cannot use the R type plugs due to their different resistor thingy ???

Now im totally baffled as to what plug i need.

what is THE CORRECT PLUG for this engine ?
and can somebody explain what the R is for , and why i can or cannot use these ?

try to cross reference to bosch. they shouldnt be hard to find on your side of the pond....and they are far better than ngk. jmo

I have a lot different opinion about Bosch. They are at the bottom of the Totum Pole. IMHO.....

Mc GR i see your post on this that says about the BPZ8HS, But QL78YC = BPR7HS on the NGK ref site.

this is where im abit confused, so many different people are saying ql78yc,
but the cross ref gives different numbers for the NGK plugs ??

as for bosch, No i do not like bosch, they are no good as far as im concerned,
ive had far too many problems with bosch in the past to ever go back to them.
Boobie is correct in saying they are at the bottom of the list.

Re: 1995 evinrude 60hp spark plugs..

Well today i got intouch direct with BRP to see what they say about what plug is best for my engine.
Got told to steer clear of the ngk due to the inductive or suppressor or whatever they were talking about, it
went right over my head as i had a proper technical type on the phone who i think wanted to talk me through
an electronics degree in how spark plugs work and how they are made etc etc.

Anyway, it boils down to the Champion QL77JC4 they say seems to be the best plug for my application and for
what im going to be using the engine for.!!!!!!

Ive never come across such a problem in getting the RIGHT spark plugs for any marine or automotive engine before.

So i ended up going to a BRP marine outlet and getting the original plugs that were fitted to these engines when new.
They also recommended these plugs, even though they also sell the NGK plugs !!!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone here for their input and advice on the subject.:)
