MerCruiser In/Out, no other detail information. Is there a back valve on the exhaust system?

Hey bond-o answer me, I've got a 1998 2659 that just did the same thing. It's a Chevy 305, Alpha Series. The stories on mine is that it was only fresh water until two years ago. I've always flushed it well after using it in the gulf and started having problems about two weeks ago but thought it was bad gas which it would clear up after a little while. Last week it wouldn't crank over after running an hour earlier. My mechanic pulled the spark plugs yesterday and water came out and it's ceased up. Now I'm trying to find the cheapest way to replace it.

The motor was replaced with a remanufactured motor. Cost about $3,900. Cost to repair was about the same so chose the remanufactured engine. Bids from $3,900 to $5,200 for the same work.

You probably want to start your own thread but, ten year old freshwater exposure, then two years in salt, not that surprising if you had exhaust manifold or risor leaking.

I should get some bids today, I've got three coming in. I'm looking at either a short or long block and if I can do it for under $5K, I'll be pleased.

I appreciate your advice on the new thread but these issues are so similar, i didn't see the benefit. I felt I was getting good advice but sure wish the advice would have included checking for risor leaks... if that's possible.
