just wondering where the cotter pin for the shift linkage that has to be removed to drop the lower case is located. Before someone tells me to get a manual it will be the first thing I do IF I decide to keep the motor. I suspect it may be a little small for my boat, a 1995 spectrum avenger sc. It is my first venture into boating and have already learned lots reading this forum over the last couple of months. Thanks lots

Spudly, on my 98 40 hp Force it is not a cotter pin but a coupling that has to be disconnected. Standing behind your boat look at your motor on the left side about half way down and see if you do not see a coupling connecting a small shift rod. Just loosen the jam nut on the coupling. take the coupling apart and remember to replace it just as you found it.

Thank you SUSAN61 for your responce. I read it then went out and in a matter of minutes had my leg off. The parts will be here wednesday so I should have it going for the weekend when I hope to give the boat a try, and do some fishing too. Thanks again and perhaps I will be able to return the favor in the future... Spudly

Hey spudly, I have the same boat, 16', white with teal trim and carpet. I have a 70hp Force on it. It gets up on plane quickly and will stay there at pretty low rpm's. I think your motor should do ok if you don't weigh it down too much. Should get you around 30 mph if it is running well and trim is set properly.

Let us know how it works for you.
