Need help please… I have a 1995 200 black max xri/efi. My father bought it new in 95’. He recently passed and I inherited the boat, after sitting up for 2-3 years I put a hot battery on it, drained fuel, replaced fuel/water filter and new sensor, new fuel hose and connector, new plugs. Boat will crank and run great 8 out of 10 times the other 2 it will just spin over after it dies from running and won’t crank back up. Let it sit for a day…pump the bulb hard and she’ll fire right back up. I’ve read all these threads about vst and high and low pressure fuel pumps but what it is doing makes no sense. Is it possible it is running good and all of a sudden it sucks trash up somewhere and dies and after the trash unlodges and settles back down it will restart, if so where would I look for this issue. Any help would be appreciated. Is there more than one fuel filter on the engine?

Since the fuel is mixed when it enters VST, after prolonged storage the gas will boil off in a vapor and leave the oil residue behind. This stops up fuel pump, sometime inlet float and pressure regulator. Fuel system needs completely disassembled, cleaned and injectors sent off and cleaned. If its dies while under way STOP as it could be leaning out. Worst case if fuel pump is dieing or ECU has problem. ECU and injectors can be sent to Brucato for testing and cleaning.

So my question in response to your possible solution would be, after replacing filter, fuel and everything I did. I launched the boat, cranked it and it idled fine, got up on plane and pushed the boat roughly 2 miles turning 5500 rpms and never once hesitated, sputtered, missed or anything and then when I started slowing down it just died. How can it run perfect that long with no hesitation or basically flawless to fall on its face and won’t crank back up. Fuel pressure has tested good 3-4x, could it just be the VST need to be cleaned minus injectors? I 100% appreciate your feedback.

Likely the residue is being broken up in VST and sent thru pump, regulator and injectors. Anytime a EFI motor sets prolonged this is a have too. Also test fuel pressure at idle and with load... I use a homemade test prop with boat on trailer. I highly suggest you get a FACTORY manual and clean entire fuel system, or you may get a lesson in how to rebuild it.

Any ideas as to where to get a manual?
