This problem has me puzzled!!!

While running at 4000rpm the motor just quit. I cleared the fuel/water seperator that did have some water in it. Started motor and ran fine for about 30 sec. At this point I changed seperator, the fuel that came out didn't look right. My thought was bad gas. At home the motor started right up and ran great for 45min. At this point I let it cool down and attempted to start, but nothing.
I hooked up a portable tank with new fuel and still nothing. I removed all spark plugs and cleaned them, they appeared to be fine.

Any Ideas

Check and clean all the wire connections behind the air box. I had the same problem and the wire connections were saturated with oil from over the years. I cleaned the connection and the problem went away. If thats not it check the optical sencer for cracks.

Did you still have spark after it quit? Sounds like maybe not.

No I did not have spark after it quit. The Mech that found the crack in the optical sencer thought that was the problem and it did help a little but it still quit every once in a while. Some time it would start right back up others it wouldn't but then it would start when I got it home. After I cleaned the wires and connections behind the air box I haven't had any problems. Good luck.

Better start checking power pack, stator, etc. Check all the obvious stuff first like ground wires and connections to your electrical system.

Thanks for the replies.

Tommorow I will clean all connections and wires. We'll see if it could be that simple.

For what it's worth, same thing just happened to me, although I'm running an older engine ('77 Johnny). I was running at half throttle and it just died. Started again, but ran rough, then wouldn't run or start at all. Found it firing on only 1 cylinder. Power Pack fixed it...

Finally got her running.......
I drained the fuel tank and found a peice of calking near the pickup tube, also replaced the fuel/water seperator and fuel line. So far she is running great.
Thanks for all your tips.

Jason
