I can not figure out how to tilt my motor up manually to replace my tilt motor. The motor gets power and the solenoids are fine it just is fried from rust. I have a 1995 175HP Johnson Ocean-Pro and it seems to be locked when I try to lift it up manually even after I open up the manual release. The motor went all the way down and will not go up??

Open the manual release valve all the way until you feel it hit the stop. I think its about 3-4 turns.

It only turns about 1/4 turn counterclockwise?? Is that correct?

It should go more, use a "gentle" persuasion. Don't get too forceful with it. The ears on that screw aren't too tuff. A good fitting screwdriver is a must.

I turned it 3/4 of a turn counterclockwise but it seems like something is manually stopping it from going upward. It seems like it is on the top of the motor. A positive stop.

It turned 3/4 of a turn but I still seem to hit a dead stop when I try to push it up.

You can try workin the screw in and out a few dozen times after a good soakin with "PB Blaster" or an inferior penetrating fluid. Odds are oxidation has built up on exposed threads.
Good luck

PS For giggles, try swapping the potter-brumfeld relays. Sometimes the solenoid clicks but the contacts on the high end have been damaged and no current flows.
