1995 150 merc wont shift into reverse

This problem happened suddenly. I have the quicksilver shifter and it still goes into foward gear ok although there is more tension on the shifter when shifting foward now. When pulled back into reverse it just grinds gears, never goes into gear completely. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.. Joe

pul the cowling off and inspect the linkage for loose bolts or whatever,also have someone shift t while you watch it at the motor end,have it out of the water on a trailer as this may make it easier
