Broke the rear bracket ( the one thats right below the power head). Looking at the shop manual looks like I don't have to pull power head to replace it. Can anyone confirm that? s/n G103761

That s/n comes up as:

MERCURY - (150 H.P. (1994 ))
Serial No: 0G103761 Model No: 1150412PD

Parts List for model 1150412PD:

135/150/175/200 XR6/MAG. III - Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc. Parts Lookup

See Cowl under BOTTOM COWL. Don't know which bracket you are referring to but as it is a split cowl, you shouldn't have a problem. Should only be four bolts if you refer to section 4 page 15 of the service manual.

Best I remember those 3 bolts are 'bout 3 1/2 inches long. Won't hurt a thing ta try. Nothin' is gonna fall apart..........Have ya already got tha two bottom pieces (cowls) off? If not it will make life a lot easier ta do so.

Got the parts on order. Bracket and bolts. Gonna tear in to it after turkey day. The only problem I see is breaking those 3 bolts. Motor is on a 21ft Kenner which sees mostly salt. And a # of trout lately.
The bracket I'm talking about is part#18578A 6

Got the Bracket and bolts (which are about 3 1/2" long). Should be fun.

Gee, if the bracket you are discussing is the one that holds the rear of the lower cowling, I think you will need to pull the powerhead to install it correctly. Mine rotted out last summer. I fabricated a new one out of aluminum, slotted the bolt holes and slipped it between the block and exhaust manifold, and clamped it with the original bolts.

BTW - The bolts looked like crap, all rusty, but came out with some coaxing. I think I was unable to get them all the way out due to the powerhead being in the way.

Good luck with it and PM me if you get it to work, w/o pulling the PH.

I sorta figured the PH would have to come off after seeing the length of the new bolts. Gonna find out. Will help when it comes time to replace PH.

You dont need to pull the powerhead. Ive installed the powerhead and I forgot to put the bracket on. No big deal. Just loosen the bolt and slot the hole in the bracket on the motor side . Stick it back on and tighten the two bolts. Its not going anywhere.

One thing ta be sure and NOT overlook. Remove tha 7/16's nut holding tha shift slide to tha anchor (throttle and shift) bracket.......That's so ya don't pull tha shift shaft out with tha powerhead...........

OK so I got everything disconnected. unbolted PH and its stuck like chuck. Sprayed it down with penetrating oil.Let it sit all day with lift hooked up. Pried on it, beat on the bottom of stud with brass drift. Still no luck. Any ideas?

Finally got the PH off. Had to drill through the exhaust manifold to get 3 studs to break loose. The only thing left on the boat is the transom bracket. While I have the thing in pieces gonna replace the upper motor mounts. Should I replace the water tube? Looks sorta thin. Not sure what a new one looks like.

Its just a copper pipe. I suppose they could corrode in saltwater but Ive never seen one corrode. They are pretty thin to begin with.
