I have a 1995 115 cross flow and was wondering if anyone knows off hand which relay controls up and which relay controls down? I know one is intermittently bad, and wanted to replace the down one only.

Thanks

The one with a big blue wire going to it controls up.

Re: 1995 115 crossflow T&T Relay Question

While it's true that the relay with the blue wire controls up, it should be kept in mind that whether the tilt is going up or down, the current that runs the tilt motor is always passing through both relays at the same time. That's because when it's going up, the current that has passed through the up relay and then on to the tilt motor must then pass through the down relay before it returns to ground (and vice versa). So even though no switching has taken place in the down relay, a poor connection inside that relay could affect the up operation.

That's why It is always best to replace both relays when one fails. Keep the old (good one) as a spare.

I agree with replacing both, and keeping the good one as a spare, I was just trying to figure out which one WAS the good spare.
