I just bought this motor on ebay and it's model number is c40PLRS with the "S" indicating salt water model. I am fishing fresh water in LA where the motor will always be used. What is the difference in the "salt" model as opposed to a regular fresh water model and what should I change or check for?

Re: 1994 Yamaha 40hp Outboard

The "S" is actually the model year, and in this case it decodes to 1994.

Very nice motor.. I have a 1991 C40.. just need a short shaft. For reference, here's my motor's model number decoded:

C40ELRP

C = C/CV Series Motor
40 = HP rating
E = Manual Tilt w/ Electric Start
L = 20" (Long) Shaft
R = Remote Control
P = 1991 Model Year
