Good day fellow boaters

Bought this boat recently, it started after a few tries. Started and stopped appx 10 at different periods over the course of 3hrs.Got towed back after it didn't start. Checked battery all good, tried turning the flywheel realized I couldn't turn it pulled spark plugs noticed water. So maybe head gasket, pull the head off damaged pistons #1 and #4. #1 has a missing ring and a chunk missing from the piston. #4 has slight damage, no damage to cylinder walls. As I turn flywheel water pumps out of the cylinders.Send block to get bored, rebuild time. As I take engine apart I notice sand and shell stuck in the 90° water outlet. Also a crack in the intake manifold sent off to get TiG weld.

I'm leaning towards overheating?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Now you know why it was for sale.------This damage is very typical on the V-4 crossflow engines.----All of them will suffer this fate !-----Amazing how well they run on 3 cylinders until the second piston goes poooff.----What do crankshaft and rods look like ?

Lesson learned bring a compression tester even if you have to turn around and get it. Worst 2700 cad spent in my life.

Rod caps will only fit on one rod.-----Easy to figure out which cap fits that one rod.-----What is your location in Canada ?-----

It seems the previous owner didn't have a sand filter. Any idea of a part #?
