Hi all,

Just got a boat with this motor.

Shifting into reverse takes about 4" on the throttle lever before fully engaging. I am moving the lever at what I would consider a reasonable speed to ensure positive engagement. The feedback in the lever and noise coming from the lower sound like the noise you would get from very slowly shifting and hearing the clicking as is meshes. I should mention that the skeg has about an inch curled up from the bottom so it looks as though there has been an impact or contact with the ground, no damage to the prop. I read somewhere in this forum that these motors have two different lower units, a "big one" and a "small one". The bigger unit is stated as far superior. How do I tell which one I have and if it is the small one, should I consider upgrading? I will be using the boat mostly for skiing and boarding. I am new to larger displacement outboards so be gentle with me.

Thanx,
Doug
