Hello,
I am new to the boards. I recently purchased a 1996 1900 KW Sportsman. It was paired with a 1994 Mariner 135L. I was able to trace the hirtory of the boat for the last 14 years and it was mainly used in fresh water. Perfect buy. I have all receipts of work done for the past 14 years too.
My issue. It stalls at low speed or doesnt want to start. The carbs were totall rebuilt 2 weeks ago. New fuel lines, inline filter, primer ball and water seperator.
I notice if I prime the ball until hard then choke the engine I can get it to start. It may stall, and then I have to re prime... maybe it will start for a few seconds.
I found that if I increase the throttle, prime the ball and choke the carbs I can get it to start, then try to lower the throttle, shift it in gear and get up to 15mph and I will not have a problem.
If i let it sit and idle it will die.
It will run at high speeds without an issue. I can cruise at 40+mph and not have a problem. I can shut down, fish and then go to restart and my primer ball needs to be squeezed again and I have to go thru the process of using the actuator/choke to start the engine.
Anyone ever experience this issue? I am asking because I have seen a few posts but no real answers. I know there was a service bulliten (99-5) that talks about fuel starvation. Basically rebuilding the fuel pump. Wondering if anyone can assist, or if anyone has experienced this in the past.
