I have a 1994 mariner with a starting problem and one started will not stay running in neutral any idea what might be causing this problem???
Obvious first place to start would be the fuel quality and delivery to the engine.
If the above is known and proven to be good…no water in fuel and filter clear and proven fresh fuel to the engine itself…then it’s almost certainly going to be a carb related issue.
Does she stay running if you jab in the choke for a second or two ? That would confirm it’s a carb or pump related issue I’d think.
A now retired mercury dealer once told me that 99% of running issues on engines of this era…is caused by carb issues, as long as fresh fuel is proven to be reaching the engine itself.
