1994 Johnson V4 140 sound level vs 3.0L or 4.3L IO?

Shopping for a family boat and found a 94 Sea Ray with what looks like a newer Johnson 140. We are in CA now but there is a good chance that we are going to move to FL next year. In FL outboards are the preferred motor. My only concern is sound level. If it is significantly louder than our last boat with the Mercruiser 3.0L, my wife is going to complain.

Hard question to answer, because it depends on how well the motor boxes are insulated. The I/O will be quieter at idle. At speed, the I/O will reverb thru the boat. Your IL4 does this now. A V6 will sound better, but will make some rumbling noises. The OB will have a higher pitched noise at cruise, but the wind will blow most of it away. You will hear both. Is one better than the other??????
