I just purchased a pontoon boat with a "very" lightly used 40 horse Johnson. That motor has less than 50 hours on it and has been sitting in a barn since 2002. Besides going through everything rubber I have one glaring issue and would like to have input on where to start.

The motor has obviously been leaking oil in some manner.

The boat/motor has a self oiler so I am wondering if it is some how leaking or over oiling. At first glance it looks like the source is right at the hose connection. When the cover is off the motor there is no evidence of oil inside.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Jon

After writing this post I started wondering if the oil reservoir might be for the power tilt. I will check tomorrow and post what I find. But a bit more information on the oil leak. It must be happening after the boat is out of the water because the oil residue is even on the cavitation plate.
