1994 Force (Mercury) 40hp

Just bought a boat and it has 94 force by mercury on it. The only trim that works is a rocker switch on the dash. The throttle handle has a switch but doesn’t do anything. What would I need to check to get that working?

Also there are the two green and blue wires inside the cowl that aren’t hooked to anything…just make barrel connectors on them. What can those be used for?

You would test the switch but I'm guessing it doesn't work.

Blue and green are trim wires....blue for sky (up) green for grass (down).

Maybe someone thought the wire harness was bad. Locate the trim relay and see what wires are on there. You can most likely test your stock trim switch with the wires under the cowl.

The two wires that come from the control harness that are under the cowl…what do I hook them to?

Normally they hook to the trim relay.

Here is a video of relay replacement.....look near the end on where they enter the motor. I think you will find someone spliced different wires into the relay.

This is maybe aftermarket wiring. There is nothing trim related under the cowl. The switch sends wires to back of boat straight to motor. Im assuming and hoping there is some relays somewhere. Need to investigate further.

There's always relays and that's what those two wires do unless you have an aftermarket trim and tilt. Post pictures....under cowl and the t&t system.

I’ll take some tomorrow. I’m afraid they wired the switch straight to battery and straight to motor…which in theory wouldn’t last long.

If I have to rewire from scratch, what will I have to do to add relays?

From what it looks like, there are two wires tied to battery that head to console to the switch and then from there back straight to the trim motor. I don’t see any breakers or relays. And the green and blue wires inside the cowl they come from the harness, are connected to nothing.
