1994 force 70hp 3cylinder w/merc ignition,red stator

hey again guys, ive got a 1994 force 70hp 3cylinder w/merc ignition,red stator,voltage regulator etc... i need to know what the timing should be for this engine.The book says 30*btdc,but i cant seem to get it that far ahead. i know there are many variations of this engies ignition system etc.. any help or anyone know if the 30* setting is correct?? all help GREATLY appreciated!

30 is correct. The way it has to be done is at WOT.What I have done is unhook the gas turn the key on and ground out the plug wires with a sparkie.Remove the plugs and push the throttle all the way forward.Then put timing light on #1 (top) then jump the starter relay and point the timing light at the mark on the front of the motor.It will get you close enough,untill you can put the boat in the water and run it at WOT.Jerry
