I have a 94 70 hp outboard. Last season the alarm was going off for either oil or temp. I didn't have that great of water stream so thought it was water pump. At high speeds the alarm stopped. I replaced water pump and now have very good stream. Now I get alarm that increases with RPM. I found out that this is probably the oil injection pump. I think it is vaccum driven and have checked oil supply (no plugged lines or other obvious problems) Is there a way to test the pump to ensure it is the pump before I purchase a new one?
Also, is there a website that has parts lists or diagrams?
Thanks
:)

If the alarm comes on with increased RPM and shuts off instantly with decreased RPM (throttle) it's a fuel restriction. Check everything from the tank pick up to the fuel pump.

Good luck!

I dont think the 70 HP has a fuel restriction sensor, if it was overheat sensor it would set S.L.O.W, which leaves the oil tank or the VRO pump sensor.Check these 2 sensor by disconnecting one at a time, then check the blocking diode, which is located APP 5 inches from red connector in engine harness.

I talked to a mechanic and he talked about the SLOW sensor because of Overheating. That is what made me think that it was the oil pump because he told me that the faster beeping was a result of low oil. By the Way i'm premixing until I get this resolved!
Thanks

The 70hp doesn't have a fuel restriction sensor. The alarm you describe is the no oil warning.

You did the right thing switching to hand mixed fuel.

There are some tests that can be done on the pump, but if tests show it is pumping oil that would indicate the electronics in the pump circuit is bad and the pump would have to be replaced anyway.

First make sure there is plenty of oil in the tank, then check all clamps on the hoses that run from the oil tank to the pump.

If any are loose or broken the pump can draw air into the pump instead of oil, even if you can't see any oil leaking from the loose connection.

If you find any clamps loose or broken, replace them and try again. If the alarm doesn't go off, make a mark on your oil tank where the level is and verify the engine is using oil before switching back to straight fuel.

Hope this helps--good luck.
