I recently got Sea-Doo XP 650cc for free. It hasen't been used for a few years. I was told the battery probably needs to be recharged, otherwise it works.
I am new to jetskiing and I would like to know if I need to take it to repair shop to check the engine, cables and all that stuff. Maybe I need to turn it on (while out of water)? Can I do that without damaging it? How much gas and oil am I supposed to put in there in proportions?
Also, the guy that gave it to me didn't take care of it AT ALL. It has been under the sun for all those years and the paint is all messed up. Can I paint it myself with a spray paint?
Any advise is appreciated. Thanks

truth is, clean the entire fuel system, rebuild the carbs, check compression, replace all fuel hoses, see if it is premix or oil injected, may have been converted to pre mix, as for paint buff it all out first see how it looks. be sure the pump is not locked up from corrosion, change the pump lube, check the driveshaft seal and see if the berrings are still good and seals are good. It may just be trash or it may be ok. but if you don't know what you are doing it probably won't run properly if at all without doing all those things, but first get a service book so you can see how to do things BEFORE you try.
