Tried looking for a post but couldnt find one. I have a 1994 Black Max 175 HP serial# 0G017890 on a 26' Bayliner Rendezvous. The lower end is a 2:1, I tested the boat when buying recently and got a steal of a deal (maybe!!), but never ran up the motor in reverse. Runs great in forward, about 22 mph at 7600'. Reverse at idle works fine, but if you throttle up a bit, it sounds like it kicks out and spins. Sounds to me like the reverse gear is out. I have drained the lower end oil and replaced, didn't have obvious signs of problem, other than I could tell it was Merc oil. Any thoughts, should I tear apart now or would waiting until offseason work?

Thanks

My experience with mine is that it's touche to center the F/R points from the N. Go through the steps of re-adjusting the center point plus a tweak or two and see what happens. Follow this, see pg 794/5
