1994 70hp Evinrude

have checked gas lines and bulb. have put new gas filter on have installed new spark plugs and put fresh gas in tank. havenot rebulit carbs or changed any settings on linkage motor had been setting for awhile but gas had gasmate add at time of storage on alarms going off. idles ok. but still dropping 2000rpms after being run awhile could it be that the high speed jet are somehow causing problem Still have original needle in carbs sorry i made mistake and post to generalboating fist time

Hi Mudgrubber. I have exactly the same problem with my 1990 Evinrude 70 - ie. it runs at about 5000 rpm for 30 seconds or so, then just dies back to 2000 rpm. It then runs rough for the rest of the day even after stopping it and letting it cool. It's only after we take it home, burn the fuel out of the carbs and run again the following weekend that it's ok again.<br /><br />I realise your post was a couple of years ago, so just wondering if you found a fix for the fault?<br /><br />FYI, we've tested fuel pressure before and after pump and it's ok. Compression is ok. New spark plugs, and we've rebuilt all 3 carbs (they were all clean inside).
