Hey guys, I picked up a 20' Princecraft Sportfisher Pontoon boat with a 1994 70 Horse Evinrude about a month an a half ago. Been having issues with it since the day I got it. It keeps losing spark on the bottom cylinder, but very intermittent. Sometimes we can go out for a whole day and it's fine then other times it will lose spark on the bottom cylinder 10 minutes into a cruise. I think I've narrowed it down to a full throttle issue, seems if I run it wide open, then back it off and then go again it can happen. Or if I do a good run, shut it down then fire it back up again a short time later to move away from shore. We switched around coils and the problem didn't follow, so we've ruled that out. We check compression and I'm getting 125 on all three cylinders. We replaced the power pack and still the problem persists. What should I try next? Stator?

Its likely the timer or the wiring to it. Check the timer voltages with a DVA while under way and see if the cylinder in question is dropping out...

I'm going to call the mechanic and make sure he's doing the proper tests, and make sure he's checking the timer base as well. Just dropped $400 on replacing the power pack on a boat I bought less than two months ago. Have only had the boat out twice enjoyably. The previous owner assured me it ran great, never had an issue. Should have never sold my previous boat which gave me zero issues in the two years we had it. Thanks for the advice schematic
