Hello
Iam going to test drive this boat in a few days it has a 1994 60hp johnson on it that looks and sounds to be in good condition
Iam wondering if you can tell me if this is the correct year by the numbers and anything else about the motor with these numbers? Anything I should specifically look for or hear for when I am on the test drive? Is there anyway to check the oil injection to see if it is working properly, I hear alot of the VRO pumps failing not sure if this is the same thing or not this engine doesn't say VRO anywhere on it. Thanks in advance guys

yes it is a 1994 http://www.outboardbooks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=models.main&year=1994&ID=66524
the motor originally had the VRO2 or OMS pump, you can only ask if it is still operating, or been converted to premix.

it is a good strong motor.
BUYING A USED MOTOR

overall condition, condition of the place you are buying it from, usually tells you how they care for things. compression 100 + psi, and within 10% of each other, good strong blue spark, no water in the lower unit oil. look for discolored paint, (sign of over heat at
one time, also scarred up bolts, as why. have them start it. if they fail to put it in a barrell or tank, or on muffs, or in the water, to start it they don't know what they are doing. best yet is to take it for a 30 min to 1 hour test run. also if remote controlled motor, the controls should come with it.

Re: 1994 60hp johnson

Does this motor have any alarms on it that I should know about before taking it out?
Eg when I go to certain engines the alarms or test lights will beep or flicker etc...in many situations I have seen these test lights and sounds don't work anymore but if you don't know they are there then you might think all is well when something is wrong etc.
And what kinda WOT RPMs should I be looking for with this motor?
Thanks for your help again.

rpms 5500 -6000 if propped properly. should get a beep when the key is turned, that is a self check.
J/E Alarms

low oil alarm is a beep every 30 seconds. beep......................beep...................

no oil alarm is a beep every 1/2 second or so.beep, beep, beep

overheat and fuel restriction alarm is a constant beep.beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
