hello again

tomorrow I will try to reinstall the lower unit on my oceanrunner and test the motor (spark testing), check to see if I can get it good in gear, no strange sounds (have adjusted shift rod length), nice pee etc.

3 q's

1. is it ok to test the motor with the water hose on without thermostat installed? still waiting for new ones.
2. Is there anything to be special aware of when reinstalling this lower unit?
3. when I put the motor in reverse, is the shift rod pushed down or pulled up? I had to adjust the shift rod a bit longer so if it is down then I believe I may have solved the strange sound when putting in reverse (if I understand correctly)

this is for my 250 1994 oceanrunner.

thx for your help.

If you move the shift handle too slow it will also grind engaging the clutch dog.----Outboards are to be shifted with a quick / firm motion.-------I believe down is reverse and very easy for you to verify that with the unit off the motor.
