1994 225hp johnson tach reading high rpms

Hi,

the motor in question is a 1994 johnson 225 vro and the tach on the boat is a honda brand

at idol the tach is reading 3000rpms and at about half throttle its off the gauge over 7k

the motor sounds normal to me, although my experiance is limited im pretty sure its not nearly that high

I attached a picture can anyone tell me if this is wired wrong, the grey wire is on a number 4, this is a 6cyl motor, number 6 does not have a way to attach the wire...

cluld the tach be not compatible, or defective?

Check with a Honda Dlr and see what they have to say about using the tach on an OMC product.

I don't believe you can make a 4-stroke Honda tach work with a two stroke.

I would call Honda and ask them.. Some tachs are interchange able. .
