I recently rebuilt the carb on this motor. It now starts and runs but I can't get to idle slowly. I unhooked the carb linkage and the timing base in order to try to get it to slow up to no avail. In the parts diagram for this carb part # 7 Jet, this jet was really clogged up . If I inadvertantly bored this jet out while cleaning it would this be the cause of my problem? Is this the jet which controls the idle and slower speeds? The screw stop is all the way backed off .The pilot screw is adjusted correctly I can enrichen the fuel mixture or lean it out and it will have the correct impact. Seems to be getting to much fuel to slow down, it does not flood.

Check to see what the timing is doing, make sure it meet spec at idle.

More fuel will not make it idle faster with out more air to go with it

Do a visual to verify your throttle plates are closed, if so you've got an air leak somewhere
