1993 sport jet 90hp cranking but not starting

hi i have had my 90hp sport jet for 2 years bought it from the orig owner and it has ran beautifuly, i ran it last christmas in very cold weather, got out to go fishing and did well, went to start the motor and nothing no crank nothin...got back home finaly and looked at the engine finaly got it to crank but not turn over completely, i replaced the solenoid relay thinking it went out, nada still cranks no fire though, the spark plugs are fine i am getting fuel it is intermitent on the cranking tough hit and miss when it misses i turn the key and the fuel guage goes flat and the power to it goes away, then a couple of times later it will crank but not fire i need help i sank 2,000 on fishing supplies (trolling motor, fish finder/gps, new deep cycle batt for both ect.) please help thank you

Sounds like a short.

At one point I found on mine that the rubber boot going to the solenoid (positive from battery) had slipped off the mounting point and when cranking I was showing a direct short to/from the starter lead on the solenoid...you might check to make sure these are insulated from one another and the boot is well in place. My gauges did the same thing which made me start at the switch only to narrow it down to the connections around the solenoid.

First of all replace the ignition switch , these are prone to failure on these boats , 25 bucks is well worth it . If you still have a problem , check the battery for proper voltage and the starter for proper operation . if all that checks out , check all wires and grounds then begin the no spark diag in the stickeey thread at the top of this forum , post results.
