I have a 1993 Four Winns with an OMC Cobra 4.3L engine. I had a problem with the fuel pump not operating which turned out to be 2 wires. The orange and green wires (orange from slave solenoid and green from alternator). Fuel pump operates fine now. New issue is that once it starts, I can only get it to shut down by pulling the coil wire. The ignition switch has no effect, nor does the kill switch. Also, when it starts the starter stays engaged until I pull the main lead from the slave solenoid.

I have been working on doing a little more troubleshooting and noted one wire that ran from the coil to the main harness plug had come loose. I repaired that and have reattached. Any suggestions on the starter continuing to engage after start? Slave/assist solenoid possible issue?

Had the same issue. I have the exact same boat as you. Turned out to be the starter solenoid. It sits right on the riser.

Changed the slave solenoid and still no change. Ignition switch will engage starter, but then starter remains engaged until I pull the starter cable off solenoid or kill it by pulling coil wire. Also, the ignition switch, nor the kill switch will kill engine. Only way I can kill it is with coil wire.

Starter solenoid! . Has 4 prongs on it. 2 large and 2 small. I freaked out one day when I started my boat and it wouldn't stop cranking when I let go of the key. Immediately pulled the battery cable. I felt the solenoid and it was very hot. Swapped it out with another I had laying around and been good ever since.
