Hello All. Thank you in advance for your help. I have a 1993 Sunbird with a 3.0L OMC GM, in the drive way the thing ran great. When we got it out to the water, if it ran at the dock and then when we pulled out and gunned it, it ran for a second, spit and sputtered and then died. We could smell raw fuel. After a quick timing adjustment, it would start, but only after the throttle was almost wide opened. We got it back to the house, and turned the distributor about 20 degrees from where it was and it ran good, for about 20 minutes, then it died. After it died, my mechanic could still see gas pumping into the carb. There was alot of black smoke coming from the back of the boat as well. The boat ran for a long period of time, never overheated, and has a holley 2 barrel. HELP!!! My plans for a fathers day on the river are now hosed........

You've Obviously got a Fuel Delivery Issue,.......

It Sounds like I'd start with a Carb Rebuild.......

Another interesting thing to note. I just got a call from my mechanic, (Car Mechanic), he says that in order to make it run real smooth, he has the timing adjusted to about 20 degrees from the marks. As in, the marks to look at when timing are 20 degrees off the the reading V. Is that because the timing chain jumped? Or what other things would cause that?

Dunno about a '93, but an '88 takes;
89 octane, 4 BTDC
86 octane, 1 ATDC
