Help! I have a 1993 Mercury Black Max 150hp 2 stroke. my problem is this. I took the boat out this weekend and it ran fine for a while. then I started trolling and after 20 minutes the alarm started beeping. I shut off my motor and brought in all my gear, then started the motor and gave it some throttle. the alarm stopped. I stopped the motor and let it sit then started it and started trolling again, just a couple minutes and the alarm started again. this time I shut it down let it sit and started the motor, The alarm started beeping constantly and I lost most of my power (cylinders I think). I checked the coolant line and it is spraying water, so I don't think it's overheating. I also checked the oil reservoir on top of the motor and it is full. When I take the boat out of gear and rev the motor It seems to rev up, but a little rough, and it smokes like its getting plenty of oil. I ended up running the motor with very little power back to the boat launch the alarm beeping the whole time. This is so frustrating. Does anybody have any experience with this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a 96merc 150 optimax that will occasionally sound a constant alarm, but mine will still power up just fine. In my case it's a stuck float in the oil reservoir. If I take the hood off and bang on the tank a few times it will unstick and the alarm will stop.

Check spark as it sounds like you lost a bank of cylinders, the oil alarm system gets its imput from the switchbox firing...
