I noticed that there is no Gear lube monitor on the engine, but im not sure if it was there originally. My newer boat 1998 Ebbtide with the same engine has the monitor. Should I get one, or it is not necessary? The outdrive is Alpha One Gen 2. Thank you.

Ayuh,.... Anything newer than '91 oughta have it,....

If yer's don't, you can add one, though I don't see it as "Necessary",.....

The fittin' for it should be in the transom plate, possibly with the hose on it coiled up, 'n tucked away,...

Thanx, I was concerned since I did not know if the outdrives are exactly the same whether they come with the gear lube monitor or not. Now I can put the outdrive back on.

Actually this will have to be a check and see if it's there or not due to the age of the engine package as there were some engine packages that didn't come standard between roughly 1991 - 95.

If the drive is off, one way to possibly know is to check too see if the oil dribble valve is set in place on the bell housing or not.

Have a read at the 7th and 8th image within the following link. http://mercstuff.com/reservoir.htm

So there are different bell housings made? One with 1/2" hole for the lube gear reservoir hose and the other one without?
