Im taking on the bellows replacement and can remember for my lifes sake if I need to drain the gear lube from the outdrive or not. Sorry for the stupid question. I change the gear lube in Spring 2018 and did not run the boat (still waiting to fix the deck. Then I noticed that bellows are cracking and need replacement. The drive does not have the monitor (I think it was the last version of the engine that did not use the gear lube monitor). Also any advises on installing the bearing without appropriate tool? I can remove it with the bearing puller from the autozone but dont have the socket large enough to tap it in or the required tool for this.
Thank you.

no, you do not have to drain the outdrive, as for the bearing, just get a bearing installed from autozone when you pick up the puller. they have them to loan. not sure if its a kit or individual installers so bring your bearing with you to match it up.
also, since you do not have an installer, be careful, you realy should check alignment before reinstalling the drive, the bearing can be slightly cocked in its gimbal and youll damage the drive or coupler trying to get the drive back on. also heres a tip, when putting the driveshaft bellows on, pick up a can of mercruiser power tune, coat the ring and you can just pop it into the housing.. no installer needed
good luck

well i just checked a/z and they do not list the installer on the website, you may get lucky at the store though.
you should think about getting the aignment tool and installer, , they are cheap as a kit, i guess that is relative though, under 100 bucks. comes with the alignment tool , bearing installer and bellows ring installer.

I have an alignment tool, don't think I have an installer for such a large bearing
