To begin, this site is amazing! Thank you to all that have helped sharing information. I’m a newbie to the site. The knowledge shared is impeccable, Got a quick question regarding replacing an exhaust gasket. 1993 Force 70 hp outboard. Is there a sealer or gasket prep that is needed when replacing this this particular gasket? Or can it be installed dry? Any help would be appreciated.

You replace the head gasket dry.

The important thing is to torque it in at least 2 steps (I do it in 3 steps) and do it in a CW circle pattern.
Start at middle left screw and go out from there.

If you put a new gasket in you have to retorque the head after some houres of running.
The new gasket will be compressed and need to be retorqued, if you reuse an old good one, this is not necessary.

Nordins answer is right unless you have a lot of time on the motor.
Over time, the edges of the mating surfaces deteriorate and round off.
If they aren't sharp, then you might need some sealer..
In severe cases I've had to have the block and cover shaved to get the edges squared off.
If the gaskets are the thick heavy ones?? then the sealer isn't needed.
The thin paper ones? sealer.

He's replacing the exhaust chest gasket not the head gasket.
