Hello this is a post for a friend he has a 1993 force 120, and this is his problem it seems the alarm only sounds in we idle. We can first put in and go full throttle but as soon as we idle back it sounds. So then we let it cool to when you turn the key it does'nt sound then we take off again and its fine till we idle back down. Is this an impeller that is bad or possibly a thermostat bad?

Replace them both, its part of normal maintenance.

Keep running it the way it is and it will eventually overheat and warp the head.

Search for impellars for both units. I think they're different.

If it isn;t clear enough, investigate the situation and repair as necessary because you are on the way to warping the head. I'd guess the leg change needs more than just swapping the leg so you might have missed something there. otherwise, drop the lower unit, replace the impeller at a minimum and really look ovetr the plate and see if you might want to just replace the whole water pump assembly. I'd hate yo hear you lost your engine.

yes my boat was hit from behind, and broke the lower unit and leg ,is a 1993 120hp force by mercury but i buy a older model 120 i think is a 1987 ,one piece shaft mine used to be two piece shaft so i do the swap everything fits perfect i put a brand new impeller gasket and housing y tried without the thermostat and still do the same alarm is coming on on hig speed when i go below 3000 rpm shuts off water pump is not big enough ???? because the two piece drive shaft water pump it looks bigger but i dont know if is any difference my new but older lower unit was on a 120 also what is the diference?????
