1993 chaparral

My g/f dad is giving us a 93 chaparral sL the stern on back says 3.0l yamaha... he said that the motor was over heating and he was just gona get a new boat...i think i wanna just put new motor in it... what motor is compatible with this boat? thx

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... If ya plan to keep the Yamaha drive,... Nothin' but the 3.0l will work,...

Why would ya junk the motor, just because the raw water pump needs an impeller,..??

he said last time he took it out he started smelling exaust or something an it was over heating....will any 3.0l engine be compatible..like the mercruiser 3.0??

Bond-O is right. Why spend the $ for another engine if it only needs an impeller?

i dont know if all it needs is the impellar ...i know nothin about boat or engines. i do know the engine was rebuilt and he had the head machied or whatever

Ayuh,.... That's the Problem,.... Ya can't diagnose the issues, 'n evaluate the condition of it,...

Talk with your g/f dad and find out when the impeller was last replaced. It it was before the overheating problem then have someone look at it for you. Actually, have someone with boat repair knowledge look at it for you. Watch him as he goes through the diagnostic process and learn from him. A lot of problems can be resolved without throwing a lot of money into what you "think" may solve the problem.
