Hi all,
I just bought a new to me 16’ smoker craft with a 1993. 50hp merc on it.ran fantastic, but noticed a small oil leak,so I changed the oil lines,(very brittle)from the bottom of the built in tank, and now the out of oil buzzer is going off, there was air in the line, so I mixed oil in the gas and drove it for awhile but it still won’t go off, do you have to bleed the air out of that system
Thanks in advance for any info.

You might have this moved to the Mercury repair forum.

I thought those oiling systems were gravity feed, from the tank on the engine. They should easily bleed, I would think.

Ok thanks, and it seems to go into a small pump first

Right, the oil reservoir gravity feeds oil into the pump. The pump then pushes the oil thru a Y into the gasoline line.

You might disconnect the pump output line and run the motor on premix and see if she pumps oil. Some Mercs have a plastic gear that drives the pump. These fail over time. Not sure what your motor has.

So it almost looks like 2 pumps, (please see photos)one below and one above, does that make sense at all, it was working perfectly before I changed the lower lines,.
It also goes to a filter, maybe taking longer for air to work through that??
Thanks

Yes, you have a fuel pump driven by crankcase pulses and an injection pump driven by a gear on the crankshaft. If you trace the fuel line from the fuel tank, it enters the engine, goes to the fuel pump and then you will see the oil injection line join it on the outlet from the fuel pump, just before the carbs.

If it ran with no oil you may have damaged the motor.----Compression test needs to be done.----Mix gas and oil at 50:1 until you are sure injection system is working.

So, it was running fine just a brittle oil line from the bottom of the oil tank leaking a few drops, I changed it ,which put air in the line,(had it on muffs,on shore)as soon as the first warning buzzer sounded, I shut it down and added oil to the tank to be safe, I then put it in the water and ran it for a couple hours , the buzzer would not go off,so it must still have air in the system, but how would I get that out, I would think after 2 hours it would work its way through if it was going to,I know I can disconnect the buzzer and continue to mix oil in gas, but it worked perfectly before I changed the oil line…
Any suggestions??

Only alarm system is oil level in tank...so either the float is stuck down or magnet has come off.

So I did take the wires off going to the bottom of the oil reservoir to make it easier to change the line,so your saying that there is a magnet in the tank that could have moved when I disconnected the wires is that correct?
